The Cubs have really been hit hard with injuries and it's finally starting to show more in the end result. With how the Cubs started, you would've hardly known that Steele/Bellinger/Suzuki were gone for the majority of April/early May. Arguably the biggest injuries were to the bullpen early on. We have been without 3 key high leverage guys (Merryweather/Almonte/Alzolay) since early May (April for Merryweather). As a result, set up/long relief/rookies are now high leverage/closers, leading to the worst bullpen outside of the White Sox. This hasn't exactly helped the Cubs who have played a league leading 30 1-run games (in which they're 14-16). If games were 7 innings, the Cubs would be 40-34 right now and there would be a lot less doom and gloom surrounding them. Have to imagine (and hope) that this gets better when Merryweather and Almonte return within the next couple weeks, especially with this streak the starters have been on. You mentioned that the Cubs missed out by not signing a noteable 1B like Hoskins, but Michael Busch has had a sneaky good year so far. He cooled off a little bit after his 5 game HR streak, but he's currently hitting .260/.353/.456 and is 7th amongst 1B in bWAR. Cubs could probably still need another bat, but Busch has definitely been one of the highlights this year!

As a cubs fan this year has been tough. Going into the year Alzolay was going to be a guy who would close out a lot of these close games and without him it has put the rest of the pen in a bad spot, not 100% on the front office but also on players for not executing. The bats will come around, I just we let some of our prospects come up and get a shot, most of them are doing very well in AA/AAA.

The Cubs' 2024 in a nutshell: The entire lineup is underperforming, at the same time, all at once (although if it goes on long enough, at what point is it underperforming or just what they are?). They have a lot of promising AAA and AAAA players but a sort of purgatory issue where they have a logjan of "pretty good" depth, but none of them setting the world on fire. The rotation has a ton of depth, and yet still is in shambles because everyone but Shota has spent time injured at least once this season. I dont think they've had consecutive weeks with the same rotation. The bullpen was the Achilles heel last year, and the only real move they made to improve it (Neris) has been one of its biggest disasters this season, on top of *major* regression from the only bullpen arms that did lerform last year (Leiter and Alzolay). Basically, everything is going wrong, for every part of the team. It's not all just bad luck, the team definitely isn't elite by any means, but they certainly aren't as bad as their record for the last 6 weeks (although the bullpen *is* and has been, and when you're losing a lot of close games like they have and will, that distinction starts to blur a bit).

He still averaged more points, more assists, and more boards than jaylen. I love Jaylen Brown. I could not be more happy for him he was beast on both ends of the floor. That being said, Jaylen has literally never been better than jt throughout their entire careers. People need to watch the damn games

The Mariners without a back-up starter like Hancock is… a choice? What happens if Woo (or any of our other starters) goes down? It’s a pitching team. We need a solid 6th guy, and that’s not Jhonathan Diaz. And we need a second baseman, our third baseman is great. Polo has never been a good defender, he’s among the worst in the league, and look at his savant, he’s dropped off the face of the earth offensively this year, long before his IL stint. And as Jake says, Coors to T-Mobile is risky as hell for a hitter.

Alonso to the Twins could be great but Festa is averaging 13.5 k p/9 and Keashal is killing it in A/AAA. I doubt Alonso would want to resign with the Twinsso that would be a hefty package for a rental. Also the Pohlads are some of the cheapest owners.
